Pine Wood Derby

The annual cub scout pinewood derby was this past weekend. This is the fifth year in a row that we have participated. Brinton participated for four years, and this year is Brock's first year. This year was awesome for me and Russell. My brother Kirk was all down and derby this year. Kirk's son Jaden is also in Brock's den. Well, Kirk went to the scout office and to the hobby shop and picked up all the equipment they needed. Then he bought the derby book to figure out how to set the wheels, place the weights, etc. Then he bought a practice track. Then on his days off he stayed out in the work shop and made pine wood derby cars. One Saturday he invited Brock to come over and work on his car. Well by the next Saturday his car was done. Here is a picture of all the cars that raced. We had 30 cub scouts race their cars. There were some pretty cool ones (a piano, a shark, etc)

Well they started racing. The leaders had invited a stake member who had a computerized program come. It was awesome--each race the car would get a point 1 for 1st place, 2 for 2nd place, and 3 for third place. When they got more than 7 points it dropped them out of the races, until their were three cars left and then they raced to see who was the grand winner. Well, Brock and Jaden's cars kept coming in 1st and the next thing we knew they were in the top three. So they huddled around for a pit stop. Here are the top three cars ready to race. They raced twice and elliminated Jaden's car. So one final race between Brock and the jazz car. And guess what??? Brock's car won. It was awesome. It was fun to listen to Russell cheer the boys on. Brock was an awesome winner. (Actually for a minute I don't even think he knew that he had won!!)
